The Hay is in the Barn!!

It's been a busy week on the Fink Family Farm. The hay is baled and in the barn!

First was mowing...

 Then raking...

Baling...

...with neighbor Paul on the baler...

The last load...

...with friend Mary driving the tractor...

And lots of time spent fixing equipment between operations... by Johnny, of course...

In between operations this past week were trips to the coast for Johnny's physical therapy appointment while I surveyed for eagles and falcons plus Black Oystercatchers (reporting to two different organizations). On another between-hay-operations day we did our Beached Bird Survey for yet another organization (COASST: Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team). Whew!

Today it is raining. Perfect conclusion to a busy week. But with the haying operation over,  I didn't know quite what to do with myself... too wet to weed or cut brush for the goats... (and I sure didn't want to clean house!)... so I wrote this blog entry. And now the rain has stopped and it's time for evening chores. Tomorrow I'll hoe the overgrown-with-weeds garden and maybe liberate the roses. Johnny had a well-deserved long nap today but was back at the equipment maintenance chores this afternoon. ...Who knows, with a little rain the hay fields may grow and give us a second cutting. This is, after all, only June. And we are the crazy Fink Family Farmers.
